On June 13, model and singer Kyary Pamyu Pamyu performed at the “LOVE in Action Meeting (LIVE)” event, a blood donation public awareness program. In Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan arena, the eccentric singer encouraged a crowd of over 8,000 spectators to donate blood.
“I heard that blood donors in their teens and twenties are decreasing. That’s why I donated blood, so that everyone can smile,” she called out.

This same event has been held four times this year by Japan’s Red Cross, as part of a blood donation public awareness campaign. Musical groups like AAA, singer-songwriter Ms. OOJA, singer miwa, and musical group “mihimaru GT” also supported the cause with their music.
As always, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu gave a colorful performance. She taught the audience about choreography while singing six songs, including her hit single, “Invader Invader.” The energetic star also jumped up and down while making announcements.
Actress Saki Takei
In the MC corner, actress Saki Takei— this year’s “20 Year Old Blood Donation” campaign character —appeared as a secret guest. An astonished crowd went wild. “Amazing! It’s Budokan!” Takei responded. Takei went on to confidently take a blood donation quiz, answering all the questions perfectly.
“I think a little courage can lead to a smile. When you donate blood, even if it’s just a little, it’s great if you can make someone smile,” Takei said.
During the finale, all the performers took part in a birthday surprise for miwa. They presented the singer, whose birthday was June 15, with a birthday cake. Next, everyone on stage (and almost 8,000 spectators) sang “Happy Birthday” to her.
The neighbors were definitely wondering what on earth was going on, but the event was a huge success. The same event took place the next day, on June 14. Musical artists “Aqua Timez,” “girl next door,” Angela Aki, and Anna Tsuchiya performed.
